Christmas raffle for our local foodbank
As a business, we have been looking for ways to give back to our local community, especially during the festive period. When put to the vote, the area where our workforce felt we could have the most impact was in supporting a foodbank. The number of people using foodbanks has risen by 73% nationally over the last five years1, leading to a sharp rise in the amount of food and funding needed.
Elfab chose to support The BAY Foodbank in Meadowell, just down the road from our office. The Great Christmas Raffle raised a total of £297.00, which the foodbank can use to purchase extra food and Christmas gifts, and to help cover the cost of delivering food parcels out in the wider community.
We also ran a food collection based on a list of items the foodbank had specifically requested. The generosity of staff here at Elfab has been overwhelming, as we delivered a total of seven boxes and four bags of food and other items. Julie Dickinson, Foodbank Manager, welcomed the donation, saying that more and more people are using the foodbank regularly.
She explained: ‘Our statistics show that a few years ago we handed out a maximum of 20 food parcels a day; now our average is 30, with peaks around Christmas, Easter and during school holidays.’ The foodbank team was particularly pleased with the tins and long-life products that will last up until spring next year and beyond.
Thank you to everyone at Elfab who gave so generously to this collection and joined in with the raffle.
