Celebrating staff development at Elfab
Congratulations to Martin Shields and Ryan Vose, who have both recently passed the BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Engineering with Merit.
Martin and Ryan joined Elfab in October 2013 as Production Operator apprentices and have progressed in their training up to the HNC. Through the training programmes they have each spent time in Manufacturing, Quality, Maintenance and Engineering.
For the HNC, Martin chose to specialise in Mechanical Engineering. The two-year course included modules such as thermodynamics, engineering design and CAD/CAM. Martin also worked on a project to improve efficiency on the shopfloor.
“Perhaps the most useful module on the course was the CAD/CAM one”, said Martin. “I use CAD/CAM every day at work at Elfab and the HNC has given me a head start in using software such as SolidWorks.” Martin plans to build on his knowledge with a further 33 days of SolidWorks training over the next 12 months.
Ryan’s HNC focused on Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Over the two years, he has studied modules on electrical machines, electronic circuits and devices, and electrical systems and fault finding.
“I did a six-month engineering programme after leaving school; since then I’ve always wanted to do more with electronics and engineering”, said Ryan. “The HNC has increased my knowledge of the electrical equipment we use at Elfab. I’ve gained more practical skills and have a deeper understanding of how the circuitry in our machinery works.”
Developing employees is key to our success at Elfab, so we’re delighted that Martin and Ryan have done so well and are continuing to develop their skills within our company.
